Life expectancy of the HU-25

If a USCG aviator student were to complete flight training in late 2010 and select the HU-25 Guardian, what are the chances that they will fly this plane for their entire career? Will the Guardian be around for at least another 10 years or is the C-144 going to put it completely out of service shortly??

Chances are slim they will fly their entire career in the Falcon with the criteria you note but I have no idea when we will actually get rid of all of them.

where do the coasties get their designations for their AC? They don't seem to follow the rest of the DOD naming criteria

our aircraft are designated in the same program every other DOD aircraft is. It is run by the AF. What seems out of place?

Yeah...how you figure?

U - utility aircraft. Not commonly used by the other services now for fixed-wing a/c, but still part of the DoD system.
H - Rescue/Search-and-Rescue

Very unlikely. The current plan has the CASA replacing all Falcon's by 2012. If you were selected for Falcons in 2010 you would probably only get 1 tour out of it before transitioning to the CASA. The "jet" era in the Coast Guard is soon to come to an end.

The C-27J Sparta is a totally different aircraft than the Casa, with more power because the engines are the same as on the C-130J. It was looked at by the Coast Guard as part of the Deepwater acquisition project, but was deemed to expensive next to the Casa (in the end it will probably be a wash).

If only the Army was truly serious about replacing their fixed wing fleet. Spoke to a few Army CWO who think the Army will not follow through on this. Their Huey replacement seems to be at the top of their Acquisition programs. Besides, fixed wing operations are not really their bread and butter.
