There was this TV show that was aimed for kids to pre-teens in the 60s. It's called Les Chevaliers Du Ciel ("Knights of the Sky") a.k.a. The Aeronauts, which is based on the humorous comic series Tanguy et Laverdure. The show deals with 2 French Air Force pilots, Captain Michel Tanguy and Lieutenant Ernest Laverdure, and their day-to-day adventures as jet drivers out of Dijon Air Force Base. Some of their escapades include combatting uncanny baddies (e.g. drug smugglers, crooked civil aviation businessmen, etc.) and air-to-air dogfighting exercises with French Navy pilots onboard the aircraft carriers Foch and Charles de Gaulle.
Before the advent of movies like T** G**, The Final Countdown, Behind Enemy Lines, and Iron Eagle as well as other shows like JAG, AirWolf, Emerald Point N.A.S., Supercarrier, Space: Above and Beyond, and Pensacola: Wings of Gold, I can wholeheartedly say that Chevaliers takes the cake when it comes to almost realistic portrayal of military pilots and their strifes on a daily basis (whether hilarious or downright serious).
Definitely gets a 9/10 in my books. To all the flyers here, what are your takes?
