I have been talking with Fly Navy(as he is in Meridian) and reading about the area's current situation as best as possible. Here is what I have gathered thus far from those two resources:
1) Power - In initial assessments about 70% of Mississippi Power Co. customers had lost power as of Tuesday, August 30. However, of those they were able to get some of those in Meridian back online, mostly hospitals, hotels, etc. They are estimating that it will take "quite a few days" to get Meridian completely back online. However, Meridian is lucky because today and in the coming days they are to get assistance from 1000(today) to 5000 additional workers from TN, AL, etc. to help rebuild the system and get power back online.
2) Phone Service and Cell Reception - Fly Navy did not have phone service yesterday but they restored it last night. Cell reception has been spotty.
3) Damage - From what I understand the most damage in Meridian was from downed trees and tree branches. Fly Navy's house was spared as were some of his neighbors. Many streets have been difficult or impossible to pass due to these downed trees, branches and power lines. Buildings sustained some sign damage and a few blown out windows.
4) NAS Meridian - I watched a video from WTOK news in Meridian that flashed openings and closures at the bottom of the screen. One said: NTTC(i think?) Instructors were to report to NAS Meridian today Wednesday, August 31 at 0700. Other then that I have not heard any updated news on it.
5) Airports - Meridian Airport was open yesterday as Fly Navy told me T-45s were landing there. Jackson Airport opened today at 0900 CT and began flights to and from the airport.

I am sure I will talk to Fly Navy again tonight (I am going to Meridian tomorrow via Jackson). I will update this thread with any new info I hear from him. Hope this helps.
