Drinkin' Beer w/ your mom
Does anyone need an apartment in Jax around the July time frame? We just bought a house here and I'm trying to get out of my lease. It's 1500sqft 3 bedroom w/ an extra room (like an office) off of the living room and fireplace. It's in a great community VERY NICE on Flemming Island (Eagle Harbor) Rent is 1100/ month. They have 2 pool w/ hottubs and a pretty nice gym. It about 15 min. to NAS w/o traffic. They aren't requiring a deposit either! PM me if you are interested or email me at chris@nosirrah.net.

Any enterprising servicemember knows how to gen up some fake PCS orders so you can break your lease, right? ;) Why go through all the hassle of a sublet?

We do not lie, cheat nor steal, nor tolerate those who do.

Yeah,
I'm going to risk 12 years of Naval service for $2100! These guys check that stuff out! BTW I just talked to front office and it doesn't matter, we aren't going to get out of anything even if we find someone to occupy the unit.

I knew I was going to get the holier than thou sentiment out of you guys - puh-leeze. It's a standard practice, I know dozens of people who have done it, and nobody is going to check up on it. I'm not suggesting you do something you have an issue with, but I'm putting it out there for others who might have a more pragmatic approach to life.

Good times,

Brett

There is no sentiment here, I'm just saying I've got a hell of a lot more to lose than $2100. Do you actually think they wouldn't check if I came in the office with a set of orders after only being here for 1 month?

I'm not speaking to the particulars of your situation, but in general checking does not occur. If it did, then it wouldn't be such a regularly used method for lease breaking. Curious as to why you signed a lease, then bought a house a month later.

Yeah, they don't check. When I broke my lease in Pcola in Dec 04, my roommate used his orders for reporting to Pcola in Jun 04 and they worked just fine.

(I don't have ultimate duty orders as of yet) So because Brunswick's on the BRAC I sure as hell won't be buying a house there and Hawaii is too expensive and I came across a great deal on house here in JAX. I know plenty of guys that have falsified orders as well, and I also know plenty (ok 2 off the top of my head) people who have been caught doing stupid crap like that. Don't forget that's forging official government documents. But I agree, in general it is not checked but I have a feeling in my case they would check (because of the situation).

Whidbey's my 4th choice, I doubt I'll get up there but I hear it's also pretty expensive. I'll rent this house out for a while after we leave Jax so I might buy up there if it's resonable. Who am I kidding, it expensive everywhere!

Whidbey should be your first choice Not even expensive (median price probably 200-250), but admitedly more than NE FL.

Yeah, but we are only a few hours away from my hometown here, NOTHING WRONG w/ Whidbey. I've been there many times, it just happens to be our last choice. Plus if we get orders here, it will be the first time I've been close to home at a PDS.

Quick thread jack. Is it at all possible for somebody living under the budget constraints of a military career to own a home in Hawaii?
