Had never heard of this weapon so had to Google more about your Johnson. A rotating barrel sure sounds like an interesting complication.

The barrel doesn't rotate, the bolt head does. It has a built in "rotary" magazine which doesn't rotate either. The magazine is circular and a spring pushes the bullet out of the magazine when the bolt is back. The barrel moves back a half inch or so with the bolt when it fires greatly reducing the recoil. The rotating bolt then releases from the barrel and continues to move back while the barrel returns forward.
