Is the Crypto community now called "Information Warfare"? If so, why the change?

Also, any changes in store for the Intel community?

It is called Information Warfare now. Check the BOLD. I think they did it just cause it sounds more interesting.

More Accurate

When Cryptology first came about in the Navy, it dealt strictly with the breaking of codes in radio communication signals. This is no longer the case. Information Warfare Officers of today deal with more than just radio signals. In fact, very little of what they do actually deals with simple radio signals. Today's communications deal more with satcom and computer based communication. Thus, the name change reflects the broader spectrum of what the community actually entails...

Spoke with a Crippy today about this topic. He said that it is new name, but now there are two sort of sub-specialties within the formerly known as cryptology community: IO and Cryptology.

Information warfare is a growth industry. Even Prowler guys get engaged. The Fleet Information Warfare (FIWC)* at Little Creek is a key command billet for the community (sometimes a Prowler guy gets into the rotation).

FIWC and Navy Space Operations Command are both under under Naval Network Warfare Command (NNWC and commonly referred to as NETWARCOM..also lead for FORCEnet. More at: https://ekm.netwarcom.navy.mil/netwarcom/nnwc-nipr/index.htm), a three star command collocated with FIWC and a Type Commander under CFFC.

For good reason, EW (EA, ED, ES) is one of the key components of IO/IW aka C2W.

The other Navy player in this field is the Naval Information Warfare Activity (NIWA).

There is no more NIWA. It is now called NIOC Suitland (NIOC stands for Naval Information Operations Center.) CNSG (Commander Naval Security Group) is now NNWC (NAVNETWARCOM) and all of the former NSGA's and NSGD's (Naval Security Group activity/detatchment) are now NIOC's and FIOC's (Fleet Information Operations center.) Is that enough acronyms for ya in a post?
