IPs/T-34s travel to ROTC Units?

This weekend my ROTC unit is having 2 IPs and 2 T-34s from VT-2 come up and give familiarization rides to some students. Is this SOP? Is this something to look forward to if you become an IP?

I know that when I checked in to TW-2 here in Kingsville, they actually briefed us that x/c flights to our old ROTC units are "freebies" if we want 'em. We can take the jets there even if it's not a syllabus ride...

It takes some logistics to make this happen when dealing w/ mids since they're not active-duty. Apparently someone jumped through the hoops required. Sounds like a good deal for all.

Must be nice.

Then are there any UMaine grads that want to bask in their alma mater?

It's not unheard of. More common are T-34 rides for middies on CORTRAMID because they're on active duty for that month. We had different aircraft come up to Oregon State while I was there but no one ever got to fly; static display only. If you can swing a T-34 ride they're a blast. Just remember to keep your barf bag within easy reach.

When I was in VT-27 my cross country was back to VMI. We brought the mids out to the bird and as we were leaving, there was even a TH-57 that had flown in to do something similar with one of the other units in the area.

For those TBS-bound guys, a couple TH-57's (flight school helos) occassionally come up to give incentive rides. There are few things more motivating than seeing Cardiac Hill from 500 AGL.

That is VERY VERY VERY rare, to the extent that it is nearly pointless to talk about. The ONLY CCX that get up that way are those that have to go up there, namely for major events that require a particular instructor to go or some special situation or another. The average is 1 CCX to the TBS area a year, and even then normally just a single aircraft.

The majority of IPs go on CCX to go someone somewhat fun...TBS doesn't rank up with Key West...besides that is one long @$$ flight....

With the Wing being as pressed for flight time as it is, I wouldn't be surprised if Key West trips soon become a thing of the past.

When I was an IP we took 2 TH-57s to TBS and gave every air contract in a company a ride. And it was probably more like 200AGL.

I don't doubt that one bit...it is a very long flight down there, a bit of a stretch really...fun but a stretch...fortunately there are other fun places to go...
