Does anybody know what it takes to be an intel officer?? Is it just brains?? How competitive is it? What's the difference between an intel officer and a cryptology officer?

Intel officers work in squadrons, on carriers, and in joint intelligence centers around the world. Mostly they deal with geopolitical issues, strike planning, SEAL support, etc. Crytology officers deal with code-breaking and information warfare. Both are competitive...those were my first and second choices before NFO. I was a former intelligence specialist in the Navy with letters of recc from intel officers, and I wasn't picked up for either. Good luck.

Exactly what the last guy wrote...

I applied for both--did not get selected for either, and was asked (read: begged) by the Navy to become a pilot.

Active duty Enlisted, start OCS on the 13OCT02 as a SNA...

I can agree w/ Mr. Jimenez...enlisted as an IS, and a "NO!" on the Intel. Officer - very, very competitive!!! They like people w/ graduate degrees & 4.0's.
