I’m curious… are these past, but no longer present, health problems as detrimental to an applicant for Intel as they are for aviation? or are you more likely to get a waiver? or is a waiver even needed for Intel? or just as stringent?

Not really sure about all that asthma stuff, but if they're no longer a problem, then my guess is that if you're smart about it, you can make it work. Bottom line is us intel folk aren't subjected to 3g's of force on a regular basis, rather we need spend more time analyzing, etc., so I think that you should be okay. That's just my guess, not being an officer yet, but just awaiting an OCS date so I can get into intel.

A shout out to all the homies on this site who gave me useful information. I've been ski bumming in Sun Valley for four months, but now I'm back in Seattle, undergoing a Defense Security Service background check, waiting for a date with Pensacola.

DooDoo,
The military's first screen for medical problems is at MEPS. For some job communities (like aviation) there are additional, more stringent medical requirements.

So, to answer your question, it's really a 2-step process:
1) Everyone must be medically qualified through MEPS. MEPS doesn't care if you're going aviation/intel/supply/etc... so they judge everyone with the same basic requirements for initial entry into the military. Waivers are granted or denied based on the same criteria.
2) After you are medically cleared through MEPS, other job communities (such as aviation) may have more stringent medical requirements. It is up to that specific community to determine if you're medically qualified to proceed. One example of this is the "NAMI Whammy" where wannabe aviators find out they are Not Physically Qualified to proceed by aeromedical specialists and flight surgeons.

Hope that helps. Sorry I don't know if the intel community has any medical requirements. Maybe someone else can clear that up for you.
