I will be taking my IFR check ride very soon. I was wondering if anyone here knows any tips that might help me pass without a problem. Does anyone know a way to keep calm and keep the nervousness at bay? I have tried reading the checklists out loud (on previous stage checks) but that really does not do much to settle the nerves. Thanks

Dan

uhm... don't suck

fly like you normally fly... if you don't suck on other instrument flights, theres no reason to suck on a checkride. my natops inst. check was probably one the most straightforward and relaxed instrument hops i've had. after awhile, there are so many checkrides (plus, you could down any flight... why worry about the last one so much more), checkride-itis is no longer a factor.

Don't suck.....that's pretty funny. I wouldn't be this far along if I sucked at flying. I can make it from point A to point B without killing anyone or causing any major headaches for the ground crew so I guess that's good.

"Don't Suck" - is good gouge.

Relax, be confident in the brief, keep your wits about you if you f*ck up. It's about proving you can think and not just do 6T's 'till the cows come home.

Realize you are not going to fly a perfect hop, don't freak if, for instance you screw up the entry turn on holding.

Some crash landings though would be going below MDA/DH without "runway environment in sight and can execute a safe landing" etc. Pegging out the localizer and not executing the missed would probably get you canned too.

Seriously , use your head. Relax, breathe, don't be a robot. Fly the airplane first above all else.

Good luck

I sing Jimmy Buffet's Changes in Lattitude song to myself when on final for approaches, it mellows me out and makes me smooooooooth. I also chew juicy fruit gum. Havent tanked a check ride yet.

But go with dont suck jsut to be safe
