I'm reporting to Pensacola the first week of august and I had a few questions about IFS. When I was in high school I flew some and over the course of a year and a half I accumulated like 52 hours (about 17 solo). I read somewhere that if you had completed at least one solo cross country then you were exempt from IFS, which I have done. The question I have is whether or not I should still try to do IFS since I haven't flown in over 4 years. Or will I be alright without it? Or should I just try and grab a couple hours before I got to pensacola? Any advice would be appreciated.

well, they will check with the FAA to see if you have a rating... otherwise, it's your call. you can do IFS if you decide that you never went solo x/c. it's a good experience. it won't help or hurt you either way. it's more of an acclimitization (sp?) thing.

If they don't sign you up for IFS, don't sweat it. Perhaps skim over some old flight stuff (if you've still got it) but remember that IFS (and API) is just to get you familiar with aviation and hopefully (for the $$$ guys) attrite those that either don't enjoy it or don't hack it.

When you check in at the API building, go upstairs to the IFS office and ask the people there. Normally, if you've had prior experience, you won't do IFS but you won't know if you don't ask.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully that'll cut a few weeks out of my wait to class up for API then. I think I might try and pick up a couple of hours though to refresh myself
