How quickly does Corpus ground school start?

Does anyone have any insight as to what the wait time is currently once you check in at Corpus? Are ground school classes starting the following week or is there a pool you enter? How does the work load compare to API?

Ken,

It all depends. When I checked into the wing, my ground school class started in a week and a half. When some of the May 04 grads got here in late November, they didn't start until mid-January. Seeing as there is a stash that's been in my squadron for a couple of weeks, my guess is near a month.

Workload, not as hard in ground school. It's a week's worth of systems (remembering it all the way through primary is a plus, since most of the brief items in the beginning are systems related), a couple days of metro (easy), and I think that's it?

Work your checklists on the hangar birds (can be found in maintenance, just ask) and look at EP's, as your first 5 sims are EP based.

Workload flying? It all depends on how fast you can wrap your brain around the concepts

Good Luck.

I checked in Dec 13 and I'm starting primary on Feb 11. My start date has been bumped up 3 weeks since I've gotten here, which I hear is usual. So my wait was 2 months, even with the Christmas break, so not bad at all. While you're waiting you muster daily then go home, unless you get a stash job.

Thanks for the info squid and Greg. I figured any waiting time down there would have been basically eliminated since Corpus basically stopped taking API grads for a solid month or so back in Nov/Dec. But it is nice to know that I will probaby still have several weeks to get to know the area before I have to start anything.

Lots of people have recommended my buddies and I look for a place on the Island -- your thoughts?

If you look at a map of corpus, you will see that NAS is kinda split between the island and the town. We live closer to 'town' on SPID (which is the big 6 lane road/freeway going through the south side of town). SPID has evertything you will ever need:

Home depot, lowes, barnes & noble, Target, Best Buy Circuit City, TGI fridays, joe's crab shack, and everyhting else you had to drive 20 minutes for in pensacola is right here on SPID. We live closer to SPID for that convenience. Lots of single dudes live out on the island where you can make it as much of the 'college experience' as you want. It's a little more expensive on the island. You'll have to get an islander's point of view for their side.

Driving to base is ~10 miles and 15 minutes no matter where you come from.

I suggest not living any farther north than Staples if you're gonna live out in town. You can always stay in the Q for acouple of days before making any decisions. The squadrons always have flyers up with places for rent.

I got a place out on the island, 2br/2.5 bath for $900 a month, pretty easy drive to base. The only problem with the island is everything in town is a little farther, but its not bad cause of SPID. Its only a 2 minute drive to the beach from my place. Whatever you're looking for, stay in the Q for a few days and go to the housing office on base to look or just look for apartments.

For comparison, we're a 2 bed/2 bath , 1 car garage, 8 ft ceilings, 980 sq ft. $700/month.
