How many hours a day should I study for the ASTB?

I am going into my senior year of mechanical engineering and I am starting the process to get a slot for the SNFO route. My test is in 2 and a half weeks and I’m wondering how much studying I need to get a competitive score.

2.5 weeks and I am assuming you haven't started studying yet? If you have a math and physics background which I assume you do because of your major, I'd say a good 2-3 hours a day to get proficient in ANIT and PBM. My friend @TwoScoops makes an amazing product in the "ASTB Prep App" available on IOS and MacOS. It has been insurmountable in my prepartion for the ASTB.

If I have any previous experience flying in a flight sim, will it allow me to do good on the PBM? From the videos I’ve seen on YouTube about it, the drone portion looks not that bad and the stick portion looks like it boils down to if you know how to use the stick and throttle. Also, for the ANIT portion, how complex are the definitions that it has you answer. I am using practice materials and test my friend gave me and it either looks not that bad or can be a nightmare. Thank you and I’ll also check out the app.

Welcome to the forum. Suggest you take the time and check out the ASTB section. You should be able to find your answer and then some.

Im going to take my ASTB in about 7-8 months, how much studying should I do a day?

This is a very subjective question - some folks need a ton of studying, aome not so much, even some who can jump and take the test right now and get a decent score.

I would find and take a pre test and see where you stack and go from there.

Of note, I don’t think I’ve seen someone ever need more than a month to study, that includes around 30-60 mins a night and 1-2 hours on a weekend.

Wouldn’t hurt to download the ASTB prep and do some quick studying whenever you are on your phone waiting for the bus, train, etc. Better than going on social media. Even if ur not fully studying yet, you can get reps on uav section, pbm, and some of the ANIT/mechanical/math knowledge.

what are the best sites for the UAV section to practice? Also what about for the anit/mechanical/math knowledge part. Do you recommend any good places to study.

Look at the “1001 questions about the ASTB” thread on this site. Start at the most recent page and work your way back. There are tons of people who post their scores and study guides that you can use

I was also considering getting a tutor that has a lot of experience with the OAR and ASTB.
Yes definitely reference the thread that has a ton of resources for studying. The astb prep app is on the app store and has practice for everything but shouldn’t be your sole resource.
