Housing at Vance

Just curious if anyone has lived in the UOPH at Vance and has any thoughts on them. i'm headed that way and i'm thinking about living there. They sound pretty nice on the website and talking with housing, but i'd rather have a first hand account.

I was at Vance... Sunridge was very nice, full of other students... lots of parties if you wanted them, but seperate buildings so they didn't keep you awake if you didnt want to go.

Plus the guy who owns the place is named "Don", and although he is a functional alcoholic... when something broke he fixed it FAST. I remember complaining to him that I had a lot of bugs in my apartment and if he could fix it... I came back from work 2 hours later and the place had been fumigated.

Plus, get a roommate and I had 1600 sq.ft. a 2-car garage, less than a mile from base, and my half of the rent was only $300 allowing me to keep the other $300 of my BAH

There are lots of posts on here about the Unnaccompanied Officer Personnel Housing... do a search and one of them even has photo's. Picture your dorm room in college... that's what you'll get. Along with random room searches, several of my flightmates had hunting knives, firearms, and even uniform swords confiscated because they are proibited.

I lived on base at Vance. It was nice because you are near everything on base and your walk to work in the morning was literally a minute and a half. The rooms are a decent size. You have a full kitchen (no dishwasher) with ample counter and cabinet room. It connects to your living/bed room area, which is connected to a semi-walk-in closet that leads to your bathroom. The bathroom is not very big, but it gets the job done. It sucks because you lose all of your housing allowance, but the only thing you have to pay for is internet/cable. It's nice on Friday nights when you can stumble home from the O'Club in just a few minutes.

I lived at sunridge, which was a good time. But I would suggest living on base just because you'll only be there for five and a half months, it's not worth the hassle of deposits and all that crap. And if you want to party at sunridge you can stumble home as well, it will just take about thirty minutes of stumbling.

I didn't know of anyone who was even allowed to share rooms at Vance while I was there (June 2006 until May 2007)

The dorm rooms are just yours... I live in the dorms, its alright, as advertised above. They are furnished but they will take theirs out if you are bringing in your own, something to think about. Slumridge is nice, really nice as long as you got a roomate, big rooms, decent prices, I met Don, a bit of a wack-job, but my friends say he does a decent job as a land lord, the big thing is dealing with the damn gate. They just totally f'd the traffic flow with a new gate and its still close to get to base but probably added 5mins to the 30 sec drive with all the damn turn abouts. And it is nice to roll out of bed, bag up and be at work, saves my truck from the short drives.
