Greetings.. My kid sis (and yes, she's married) will be moving to Jacksonville for her medical residency.

She's looking for a 2/2 between $800 - 1200 monthly, near Wolfson Children's Hospital or Shands Jacksonville.

Thought someone would have good advice on neighborhoods/places to avoid.

Thanks!

San Marco. 1920's-30's renovated bungalows for low $300's in one of the two top neighborhoods in Jax. Same side of river, 5 mins from Wolfson's. (top notch facility btw)

Avondale, same style neighborhood with walking restaurants/bars/shops and lots of med types living in apartments. Con: other side of river, 15 mins from Wolfson's. Mostly St. Vincent's types.

good luck.

I agree with Hozer. The only other thing I would add is that she probably needs to see them in person and/or have someone she REALLY trusts (i.e. family member, close friend, etc) to check out the houses. JAX is one of those places that has projects next to million-dollar houses. So, she might find the perfect little bungalow, but her crack-dealer next door neighbor might be an issue.

San Marco and Avondale are pretty safe bets, just make sure she's really careful.

Hope it all goes okay for her.

It's generica, looks just like any other suburb in CONUS...nothing much significant about it, really. Traffic is pretty bad out there, much like anywhere on the east side. As long as she stays outta Westside/North downtown she'll be okay. I gotta echo the Avondale/San Marco sentiment, for vibrant, alive and happening neighborhoods look there. Once you cross the river you are at the mercy of traffic which gets pretty heinous.
Not intending to threadjack but FYI I have a bungalow for rent in Avondale, close to the hospitals in question.
