Helos closed for the rest of fiscal year?

Hey, rumor has it that helos is "closed" for the rest of the fiscal year. Does anyone know if this is true? Apparently they took so many helo spots that they don't have any more money to take new students at advanced. Does this mean that anyone selecting before the end of the fiscal year won't have the option of going helos, or rather, that if you select helos, you won't class up until after October? The latter I can deal with, the former freaks me out. I'm scheduled to select here in about 3 weeks. Let me know if anyone has heard anything. Thanks.

Helos closed for the rest of the fiscal year? Haven't heard anything but my initial reaction would be probably not.

As for the number of students advanced took recently? You have to keep in mind that both squadrons skipped a full class pickup so the number isn't really elivated, just a little backlogged (quickly correcting though) from the month no fly for the Bravo's.

Of the two scenarios you listed I think the 2nd is much more likely, assuming that they took too many students. If they didn't allow students to select Helos they would have to select something else and there just aren't enough slots in those platforms to make up the difference. The last I heard the delay is down to about 2 weeks at the wing waiting to pick up with Advanced but again that could change anytime.

If you are selecting in about 3 weeks (mid to late Sept) then I don't see how if there was a problem it would affect you, as you might not start helo until Oct anyway.

Best of luck with selection, if you head to South Park and have any questions let me know, be happy to help.

I've got 2 friends that just checked in to advanced. They aren't closed for the year. HT-18 is almost out of flight hours, but that just means they've been flying everyday they possibly can, and they don't have the money to do extra flights. What's going on is that they are slow to get from ground school to your fam flights. There is about a 3 to 4 week wait. Plenty of time to study and get ready.
That's the latest that I know... if I hear anything else, I'll post it.

It's not that helos will be closed, it will be that you just won't be allowed to select until the new FY. FlyFastNow, depending on your squadron (and service), if you're still 3 weeks out, you probably haven't finished/started Intermediate sims, which probably means you may not even know you've been "selected" not to finish before the FY. Could be wrong, as it varies from squadron to squadron, based on numbers.

Sir, just an update to ad to that, HT-18 currently has about a 4 day wait between CPTs and FAM flights...with most of that wait a result of waiting for onwing instructors (as per the most recent class) and the class that just checked in is being told there will be no wait when they get done.

I selected Helos August 17th. Checked into the wing the following day with a projected class date of Sept 21st. There is about 4 week wait to start on the Navy side but it looks like things are still up and running as far as selecting rotary out of primary is concerned.

Is there anything more out of place than seeing a phrog in "White Side" HMX paint scheme? :)

Thanks for the update on that.... when I checked into 18, I had a week between CPTs and FAM 0. It was defintly worth it because I got to put a lot of time into working on my preflight.
