Back on Duty again as OPSDDO on the mighty JFK.Just finished reading todays paper. And I have a question for all you Helo Bubba's out there. WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH ALL THESE BLACK HAWK DOWNS. I read that another one went down in Iraq killing three.(Prayers out to the crew members family). But it seems like everyday another has crashed. And I thought that Naval Aviation was dangerous.

Landing in that damn middle eastern sand is simply the most dangerous thing going in aviation, especially at night. Even if you grease the landing, you're still going in almost blind, and if that's the time a rut catches your wheel, dynamic rollover can turn a helo over in an instant.

Read one of my post's titled: "Cobra pilot's account of Operation Iraqi Freedom"

It's a long post, but it will give you a little insight into what flying is like in the Middle East.
