Yeah, my last squadron was really into it. Apparently we were the first to really get this going w/in LAMPS. I managed to get grandfathered into not having to do the courseware (thank god, I hate CBTs), but I still had to go through the curriculum. Once they ironed out the details, it came together. There was always the issue of getting a check in the box because you were about to go to sea, which can detract from the value of the qual, but in the long run, it came together.
I was one of the first guys to go through in my squadron, so I didn't have that much respect for the program at our level (one more qual I had to do when I needed to be worrying about my det's maintenance). Then when I started doing workups for my second cruise, and then actually deployed, I saw some stuff at the other squadrons. Low and behold, when the wing said my squadron was ahead of the curve, it turns out they weren't just blowing smoke. My OIC was an east coast SWTI, as well, and he even said that we were ahead of the east coast. By no means are at the proficiency of the Marines, but at least by the end of the program, I could confidently control a section of gunships and get them on target.
Since the program has been going for a couple of years w/in LAMPS, everyone seems to be up to speed now. Some of the west coast squadrons will still send dets out to my old squadron for night TACFORM training, but otherwise it's seems consistent across the seawall.
