Today, the captain who is handling my application told me that he "knows" i am going to be too short for pilot, but maybe be able to get a waiver for NFO. I am 5'4", (64") He also said that i might not qualify for air because i weigh 126 lbs. He based this off the fact of ejection seats, although i checked a couple of posts regarding height and weight, is what he saying accurate?
My flight physical is scheduled for the 30th of March at NAS JAX in FL. Should i start taking weight gainer or what? I am in pretty good shape, though not sure exactly what my body fat % is.
Second Q, he told me to tell (im assuming the flight physician?) have to clarify, to tell them that i am applying air and need to be checked for NFO. Thats when i asked him why not tell them pilot, as he told me the aforementioned information. so, Q is, does this height/weight info sound accurate according to him, and who do i talk to about waivers, the flight physician?

Now who do I blame?

Anthro (height, weight, sitting hgt, etc) requirements vary platform to platform. I know that the P-3 community has people that are in or below your height range, but I am not sure what the exact requirements are for the other communities. You may go to your physical and find that you not qualified for fighters but are for other types of aircraft. A flight surgeon or some of the guys with better/more up to date gouge on this subject will definitely have a better answer for you, and I imagine that there are some threads on the subject on the sight somewhere. Good luck.

I'm not the expert on Anthro or anything, but aren't pilot and NFO anthro reqs the same, especially for TACAIR? Also, I didn't think that height was a factor so much as sitting height/torso and leg length. Bottom line, get measured then you'll know.

Nope, they are different. You can get anthro'd out of pilot yet still be NFO eligible.

Kooky. I'd be interesting in the specifics (but am much too lazy to look them up). I guess me smashing the ICS button w/ my right foot isn't as important as you working the rudder. :D You flying yet? What say you, Punk?

I know she got disqualified specifically for arm reach. Beyond that, I don't know any specifics.

And yes, I'm flying :D (in the back :()

If flying is what you want, you could consider Army. There was a guy in my flight school class last year that was about 5'2" and about 115 soaking wet and he's flying Apaches. One of the instructor pilots here at my unit flying Kiowas is 5'1" and has no problems. I know I'd rather be a pilot in the Army than an NFO in the Navy, but you have to decide what you want in your heart.

That being said, from what I hear the Navy treats its pilots better than the Army treats theirs (at least on the officer side) so if you can, I'd advise to go Navy.

spinspilot,

I just took the last part of my flight physical (at MCAS Beaufort) and I remember the doc pulling up a webpage with all the various height requirements on it. I looked around and can't find the page he used (probably Navy private) but I did find this site that lists the requirements for the Navy:

Height - minimum 163cm(64.17") and maximum 193cm(75.98").
Sitting Height - maximum 100cm(39.37").
Buttock to knee length - maximum 67cm(26.38").
Buttock to heel length - maximum 122cm(48.03").

Here is the link to the page

Hope this helps you out a little.

Good luck

Not too worried about it anymore. I just got back from NAS pcola on a type of "field trip" with the UF,FSU candidates and it was a blast. We got to go in the T-6 sim, check out the aircraft on the flight line, and talk to NFO's and Pilots all day, they were awesome guys and gals who answered so many questions. Awesome trip. Thats an understatement. The only shocker of the trip was that we had to stay in the BEQ and were sorta treated like ****, but hey, i think thats just the guys in charge doing there job. the squadron was the VT-10 wildcats i belive.
