Heading to Vance

Hey I am heading to Vance in a few weeks and had some quesions. (there are 5-6 in the class behind me in API also heading to Vance that wanted to know) What is the first week or so like?? Good time to have a g/f visit?

Did you sign a lease before you got Enid? The housing office said they currently had enough occupants in the BOQ, but that could change in a few weeks.

They class up every three weeks, so you will most likely have 3 - 6 weeks off when you get there.

After that, the first 4 weeks or so are "slackademics" its not a 12 hour day, and its not hard atall. Its kinda like API for dummies.

Defenitly a good time, and the only time to have someone visit is ths time period. Once you hit the flight line, 12 hour days for atleast 3 months can be expected.

Although, if someone happened to come out during Phase II, there is always that outside possibility that you could be DNIF for some day. Or atleast that's what I have heard. I'm not speaking from personal experience or anything.:icon_wink

DNIF = med down for all you non-purple aviators.

the april 28th class is full, and depending on when you get down here the may 17th one might be full as well. so the earliest you could start is april 28th. you might not start until early june. and until you start you'll have basically nothing to do at all. so you can have your g/f come visit, or you can take as much leave as you have. you literally just have to show up at eight every morning and stay until ten.

i haven't run into anyone down here that has had problems with getting a house or apt. i would wait until you get down here because you'll want to see the places down here, and they'll pay for you to stay up to ten days at the Q.

all navy and marines will be flying the t-6. there is only one t-37 class left and that classes up next week.

Class 0708 is starting on Friday here, and it is chock full and yes, class 0709 looks full already. Some of us (Navy) have been hanging out here for a month already and have taken leave most of the time we've already been here. It is important NOT to be in the "Casual Office" (stashed ensigns, in squid-lingo) for the 0800-1030 workday until you class up because you'll be shredding papers for 2.5 hours or get assigned a urinalysis monitor job. GO ON LEAVE.

Vance is not that bad. I was worried about being here but I have definitely had fun here. Callahans Irish Pub in town was nuts on St. Pattys Day, Scooters on Saturday Night (if you can handle the smoke), and lots of other people having parties to celebrate track selection night (applicable to Navy as well since that's the end of phase II here), and Assignment night (Air Force only since Navy officers in Phase III here are already assigned E6's).

All in all, it's an ok time here, so get a fishtank, learn how to drink, and don't worry about coming here because a friend who just left Pensacola said you don't have a choice anymore anyway. Someone confirm this who actually HEARD Lt. Hammer say that?

You never really had any choice anyways... they may have let you think you did. You were still going to go where they wanted you to go either way.

Ok, I am kind of curious what the daily schedule works out to be up there, and it doesn't seem to have been answered yet? (no real need to know just curious)
