Hawaii - Need Home for wife, baby, and 3 well-behaved dogs

I just got out here to K-Bay and we need a home with a yard for our dogs. They're well behaved (we can provide references). We'd like a 3 bedroom place close to H3 (on winward side or near Pearl Harbor) and are looking around $2000 for rent, but we're flexible.

We're really good tenants and believe we have an obligation to God to take care of a place as if it's our own. I'm sure others feel similarly, but it's just something that's very important to us. My wife will be home most of the day taking care of the home too. Let me know if you have any options that might work.

Thanks.

Rg, sorry can't help you with housing, but did you have to do any kind of quarantine for your dogs? I've heard Hawaii can be restrictive on pets coming into the state; any truth to this or is there an end around for military? thanks.

Rg9 - Are you not having a lot of luck finding places that allow dogs in Hawaii? What about on base housing out of curiosity? Thanks

Well my family's not getting here until the end of Feb, and I'm trying to save money by NOT moving into a place yet, so I have some time (all the places I've found are "available now"). Yes, I have looked into base housing. They'll allow 2 pets, but no "aggressive breeds" like pitbulls, etc. Unfortunately, everything's been closed cause of the New Year, so I won't be able to see them until Monday.

If you're interested in military housing, check this out:

You can also stay on the Marine Corps Base, but as I understand it, we get bottom of the list for where to live, and they enforce lots of rules pretty hard core (like talking on cell phone while driving = stickers scraped). Also, the MCB is about the farthest you can live from Honolulu/Pearl Harbor/etc., so it's not really ideal.

The Manana Neighborhood is an option for us P-3 types stationed in KBay. Really new, 3-4 bedroom houses that are 1800 sqft. Located in Pearl City, close to the Pearl NEX, airport, and easy access to H-3. Several guys from my squadron live there. Unfortunately, last I checked, there weren't any houses available. But, my name is on the waiting list, and hopefully when I get back from the desert this summer, there is something available. Something to look in to. And this is the website you want to use, not the navy website. If you want one of the neighborhoods from the Navy, you'll need to go through the Pearl Harbor housing office.

Yeah, I was talking about the Navy side, hence the website. I'll look into that neighborhood. Unfortunately, they were telling me I can only get 2 bedrooms cause we have only 1 kid... But if I get my wife pregnant before we move in (yes, they told me to knock up my wife within a month of giving birth), we can get 3! Do you know a way to up the bedrooms besides that?

Thanks for the advice.

That is true about only being eligible for 2 bedrooms. But, from what I know, there is no officer housing less than 3 bedrooms, whether it is in Manana or on base in KBay. If there are 2 bedroom houses for officers, that's news to me. I'll put it this way, everyone that I know that lives in base housing, or has lived in base housing, had a 3 bedroom and most were without any kids. Take it for what its worth.

I am going to try base housing, and I have specifically requested Manana. I know that I could not afford to rent/buy something like that in Hawaii.
