Has anyone ever been readmitted to flight school

I realize the level of disdain this topic will bring but I feel compelled to at least explore the subject.

I was a flight student who after consulting the flight physician Dropped on Request about halfway through primary. My father had died of a heart attack and I had to choose being able to spend the large of amount of time holding my family together, or spend the large of amount of time in flight school. I don't expect anyone to agree or understand my decision but I dropped. It was the only way to save my family and my marriage. My decision effectively saved both my family and my marriage but now I am left with the same "haunted" feeling everyday, that my dream is dead. I am now a Command and Control officer who has served as a Company XO and I am currently in Afghanistan serving as an infantry officer embedded with an Afghan National Army Infantry company. I was originally with VT-3 at Whiting field, I am sure there are many on this forum who know who I am, but I feel I should not let this deter me from asking this question.

Has anyone ever been readmitted into flight school after a DOR? I am sure they have not and I expect that I will be told to go pound sand, but I must explore this, if anything it will put my mind at rest. Good luck to all who are trying to make their dream come true, don't ever do as I did, there is nothing in the world that is more important, only now do I realize it.

The answer to your question is, yes. It's not an easy sell, but it can be done. If you want it bad enough, go for it.

Normally, IMO, if someone DOR's, there should be no more chances. Often, there is more to the story than given on the net....such was the case of someone on this site (not DOR though). However, if there isn't more to your story, I might see a case for ya (if I were a decision maker).

If you made the decision for reasons stated, then stand by your personal logic, don't second guess yourself. I have a friend who went through BUD/S and had to tend to family at conclusion so never pinned on the Trident afterwards, but became an AMDO to tend to his family. He stayed in shape and after family issues were resolved and went back and asked to reeenter BUD/S to show he was willing to go through it all over again. They said yes and he went on to wear the Trident. So stick to your dream and don't say "I should have..." I agree with Bunk, this is a bonafide reason to have left flight school and worthy of reconsideration.

I can honestly say there is nothing more to the story, no downed flights, no pink sheets, no DUIs or other factors. What I have said is the truth, thanks to everyone for the encouragement.

If you don't ask, the answer's always "no." You might have some 'splaining to do with your command as you get your endorsements for a package--"uh...didn't you drop out of flight school?" But if it's important to you, give it a shot.

Wedge... I can empathize with you. I went through some tuff times as well, after I got winged. Hope you're able to get back in.

Start writing letters. Too bad Col Caveman isnt still there. He was an awesome guy who gave second chances to those he felt deserved them. Whoever is in charge of Matsg... give them a call or email. Plead your case and pray. You never know. Theres a guy many of us knew who got a second chance at API and rocked the rest of flight school. Hes in Hornets now... Keep the faith.

There is something in the world more important, and you realized that at the time. Would you be in deeper regret now if you had lost your family and your marriage, but you were flying?
