Does anyone know what kind of hand-to-hand combat training is taught? I have been wanting to get a jump start on it and am wondering what style I should try and learn.
I know the Marines do a lot with hand-to-hand combat, but how much do Navy officers get trained?

Navy officers don't get trained in hand to hand combat. it tends to bruise us.

we don't have organized PT either.....

The preferred art in the navy, is to crap in your hand and throw it at the would be attacker.... Much like the apes at the zoo. Works everytime!

waiting not so patiently for OCS...
Come on everybody. Didn't any of you learn from "Officer and a Gentleman" that you need to be able to kick your DI's ass? I suggest you learn the "Mayo Chop." That's apparently all you need to know.

unless you're a SEAL i don't see when a naval officer would need hand to hand combat skills. even if you're shot down as a pilot the object would be to evade your enemy not kick his ass and attract more attention ala RAMBO. I went to OCS... no hand to hand combat was taught.. however.. we did learn TAE BO! NO KIDDING. DI's were jamming along with the music as well.

Ship self defense. As far as I know, from talking to SWO daddies, they're taking that a lot more serious (boarders, etc).

I heard that if you're a SWO wannabe, you learn how to manuever a knife behind someone's back.

I'm a former SWO, current in A-Pool for another week.

I did learn two deadly arts in my Naval career. The first, of course, was the art of back stabbing. Once I had mastered that (it can only be mastered by having it done to you), I learned the treacherous art of Fa Qu.

Neither of these have anything to do with ship self-defense, nor does anything else you learn in your Naval career, at least in regards to hand-to-hand combat. I won't go into particulars, but suffice to say hand-to-hand combat does not enter the training carriculum at any time during OCS, SWOS, or any O-training on a ship.

Wow Kmac, that was a dagger out of nowhere. Looks like you've perfected the art.
