Hey All~

I'm now a 2/c Marine Option Midshipman, and being so, I'm seriously beginning to consider my MOS options. Obviously I've considered aviation and I think I'm at least semi-educated on it, but one that I've been looking into is Ground Intel. Does anyone have any detailed info on the Ground Intel MOS? I'd like to know what the officers are like (personality), conductivity to family life, difficulty at getting assigned intel as your MOS, career path, retention after four years, and what they tend to do outside of the Corps. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I highly doubt there are any ground intel officers on this site but if so please share your knowledge with us.

Semper Fi,

Pat Daly

P.S ~ OCS Summer 2005 (hopefully 1st increment), who's going to be there with me?

0203 is one of the most competative MOSs. generally speaking your first assignment will be a Scout Sniper Platoon Commander then if you are REALLY good you will have the can be screened and evaluated for Recon (Bn/Fr) if not you will provide intel to the batallion commander advising him on routes, enemy troops, etc. and you will also work for the MAGTF

everyone.. even little academy freaks, are in the same pool at tbs. your performance there, quite a bit of luck, along with the needs of the Marines dictate who gets what. if you are half-way interested in aviation, get the contract now. otherwise, you will most likely be disappointed if you are trying for one specific mos out of tbs. especially when there's always only one or two ground intel openings out of 200 kids.

Go to the TBS website, they have this section called "My MOS" that talks about all the different MOS's and answers most of the questions you asked...

Ground Intel is a great MOS but dont think you will be out sniping bad guys and doing things like that. your job will be to plan sniper employment and man a watch officer position to provide what they see to the ground commander. as far as Recon most of those slots go to grunts and they as a community are very protective of those slots. I know more than one guy who bought inot the ground intel hype is not the right word but they thought they would be "opertators" and not the analyzers that they are (a very important peice of the pie but not as sexy, so know what you want. If you want to really hook and jab be a grunt or a tanker

skidkid is dead on. There are Ground Intel officer's who feel they are nothing more than a "glorified weatherman." For whatever reason, it has some sexy mystique. I believe this is because 0203's go to Sniper Platoon Commander School, possibly SERE school, and any number of other high speed schools... so they must see the most action... WRONG. They go to those schools, so they know how to employ the enlisted guys who carrie out the missions. Grunts only go to Infantry Officer Course.... but then they get a platoon and actually lead it into action.
