Holy Cow....I just got finished moving a gun safe into my garage. Holy crap it must weigh 800 freakin' pounds. It is made by Pro-Steel. With 10 locking pins in the door. The steel is 3/8 plate all over. Lock is Sargent and Greenleaf. :D

The thing is about 52" tall, 29" wide and 24" deep. What a huge pain to move. It took four neighbors and me to move it out of the back of the Durango (with the safe door off) and into the garage. I wager money that four typical house theives could not move this to try to steal it. It has smooth rounded corners and nothing to grab onto. Not bad for $400. :)

Here she is. Fully loaded out. Yardstick for comparison. Ohhh my achin' back.:(

Nice. I need a safe like that BAD. I need one with at least a 20 long-gun capacity.

Gun safes are a must if you have firearms @ home -- to protect you from others and to protect others from themselves. I have safes in the "gunsmithing" room and upstairs for "personal belongings". I will never move them again, however --- I'll hire it done next time.

My storage areas are temp & humidity controlled --- if not you'll need high quality dessicants and need to check/change them regularly. I initially made the mistake of not checking often enough when living in a prior location --- I went on a 2 week trip -- returned to find some of the leather slings developing mildew. Some high end safes come with internal systems -- you've got too much money tied up in firearms, you have to protect your investment, safety considerations aside. Now that's news .... right?? :)

I must be a lucky sob....I have three safes and will soon need a fourth.....unless my wife actually goes out in the garage.

I use 'goldenrod' dehumidifiers in all of them. Well worth the investment.

I used to move my first one by myself....1100 lbs..but, sh*t, I am a big boy, squat 550, BP 375...I can handle it...a couple of oak dowel rods, a 1500lb appliance dolly....smooth as a baby's butt. Until...

That fateful day in Fallon. I was backing up and tripped. (ORM not present)In that microsecond that the event took, I saw myself on the corner selling pencils and telling stories. The safe stopped, but only because luck had two 40mm ammo cans to break the fall. I actually felt the safe touching the hairs on my kneecaps.

I sat there for awhile, squeezed out from under it and went to the casino. Next day I bribed some SEAL buddies to help me lift it upright.

This grasshopper learned that it is much easier to pay professional movers.

FWIW, fire rated is the way to go.

Speaking of gun safes.... anyone in the DC area need a nice Sentry safe? I figure it is easier for me to sell it here than take it down to P-Cola.

I plan on using a Goldenrod element. I'm using dessicant bags (1# size) until I get the heating element installed.
Next time, I'll pay some movers. Hopefully will never have to move it.
