I've been meaning to buy a handgun for a while, with prices dropping on import used Sig P225/P6's from the German police ($260 with 2 mags and a holster), I think I'll finally make the jump. Single stack, but hey, for the price I ain't complaining.

So now what? I've had some limited handgun training back at home. What should my next steps be training-wise, other than just getting range time with it? I've been hearing good things about the Muzzleloaders range in Pace.

I've got a certificate for a 4-day Front Sight course from the linkspamming promotion they had last year, but I think it's a bit premature for me to be going. And besides, I can't afford a trip to Vegas yet.

Umm . . . I'd vote for the SIG because I'm partial that way, but where the F are you finding them for $260 in any kind of good condition? I've never seen used ones below $450 or so. Not trying to call you out or anything; is this recent?

Get some trigger time.

If you feel comfortable with your competence safety wise you will need to get some trigger time.

Getting comfortable shooting your weapon comes from practice. If you want you can take some classes but I would recommend putting some rounds down range first.

You mentioned you might be going out for a CHL which is well and good, but remember carrying a weapon puts you in a position of responsibility for any bystanders you accidentally hit if you have to use your gun. Becoming proficient with your gun is a must.

I took the CHL (CCW) course and bought a glock 19 the same day. My recommendation is get a friend who knows how to shoot and just GO SHOOT. I took a buddy and went to the range and put a couple boxes downrange. Be sure you learn/use proper gun safety and practice handling your gun and firing it under different conditions. The more you shoot, the better you get. I may not be as accurate as my friend, but I can definitely put someone day if they break in or look as if they're going to attack me.

If you go to the place that issues you the CCW they usually have little books with all the updated laws. Be sure to read that. Sometimes they arent updated online that quickly.
