Furniture in Corpus

I'm looking for some ideas on where to get some furniture in Corpus Christi. I have a 1bd apartment and I'm looking for a couch/futon, bed, dresser, and desk. I'm somewhat limited with my budget but I'm open to any suggestions. I've been monitoring craigslist but just haven't found anything yet. I'm thinking I may just go to Wal-Mart for the desk and dresser if I can't find anything else. Any suggestions?

I got some stuff from the NEX Furniture Gallery on base. I am happy with it. It won't be as cheap as Craigslist, but there good quality and selection.

We thought The NEX had a pretty crappy selection (kind of an ugly 1990's era style). I HIGHLY recommend Furniture Row off SPID. They were awesome and extremely helpful and had some amazing pieces! Attached are a bedroom and office set we bought. We also didn't have to pay a dime for a year...

The NEX furniture gallery's selection isn't great, but they can order anything out of the Ashley Furniture catalog. I found what I wanted at the local Ashley store, then went to the NEX and ordered the furniture. If the NEX wasn't cheaper they at least matched the Ashley store's prices. Also, if you open a STAR card (the NEX credit card) your first day's purchases are 10% off. So, if you are ordering a lot of furniture it could be a great way to go...

Also, if you want nice wood furniture there is an Unfinished Furniture store off of the SPID. They have some nice stuff, will finish it for you if you want, and off a 10% military discount.

I actually just bought a monster armoire, ( I had no idea John Elway was in the furniture biz, bought he's got his own line of Bassett), from the Army exchange at Ft. Belvoir. You can get some great furniture deals through AAFES and NEX.

Check out Wilcox Furniture at Sunrise Mall. Good quality, but a bit expensive sometimes. That and I've heard good things about Furniture Row.

Roommates is off Staples to the east in the same strip mall as big lots. They had decent bedroom and dining room furniture for really good prices.

I would recommend Lebowitz. Good selection, they'll haggle. Lacks is also a decent place to look as well. Ethan Allen is a bit pricier. There are tons of furniture places just off SPID; just keep your eyes peeled.

until you buy your first home, I wouldn't spend a lot of $$..... I still think that the NEX home gallery is your very best deal.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Once this storm clears out I plan on starting to shop. I won't be spending a lot, I just need something more than a beach chair (my only piece of furniture currently).

Just wait a couple of days and you are going to be able to get a bunch of stuff with minor water damage really cheap.
