F-14B/D RIO
I believe this is a Ronald Reagan item. He did a daily three minute radio broadcast between his first bid for the Presidency in 1976 and his second one in 1980. Wrote all the material himself, and this is one of the stories that he told. In the book "Reagan, In His Own Hand", it appears on page 262-3 and aired on November 16, 1976. There are some minor changes with the text given above and the one in the book. I bought the audio CD last year when I was at the Presidential Library in Simi Valley. Highly recommended. He was much more of a thinker than most "intellectuals" gave him credit for.
The musuem, btw, is going to have both Air Force 1 (a 707 he used during his presidency), as well as an F-14 painted in VF-41 colors to commemorate the 1981 Libyan shootdowns. That jet is sitting on our flight line here at Point Mugu, with it tails off and waiting to be put on a flatbed truck. It came to us from NSAWC when they finished with Toms last year. How the mighty have fallen.
