Fun With a Jeep...

For those that have been in and out of the back gate at NAS Pensacola and know where the De Ja Vu furniture store is...

There's this rather large crater like pit outside of De Ja Vu furniture, and it occasionally fills with water.

I'm driving home from my buddie's house, and I see what looks to be the top of a Jeep Wrangler sitting in the puddle with bubbles coming up behind it. So I slow down, and upon closer inspection, that's exactly what it was.

So, I turn around and pull into the parking lot. What I find is this: a LT sitting in a half submerged Jeep Wrangler. I drve a Cherokee, and was not going to be able to pull the Jeep out of the puddle as the sand was too soft and I almost got stuck driving towards the puddle. That and I didn't have anything to tow him out with.

Well, about 5 minutes later, a passing dump truck crew sees us, and stops to render assistance. The dump truck crew rigged a cable around the tow-bar on the Wrangler and pulled him out.

Lesson learned... check the depth of a puddle BEFORE you dive headfirst into it...

I got stuck in that exact same "puddle" about hood deep in the muck...and my jeep ain't no low-rider. I made it in, just didn't make it out quite as smooth. That is one nasty spot. A chief winched me out with his pretty, new jeep. It was a perfect time to practice that ol' ensign salute. The guys that work in that furniture store see someone stuck almost weekly. Good times...eh?

I was driving home from my buddy's house the other night in Milton and pulled a couple kids out of some sand. The geniuses drove a minivan onto a drit/sand road and kept digging themselves deeper. Not quite as exciting as a jeep half underwater, but . . . .man the people in this town are smart.
