Fun in the sun

Hello all! I have been in the Navy for a while but am a NUB in the aviation community currently waiting for IFS in Pensacola. I am curious about all the fun stuff to do while here in P-cola. I am married and we have a three year old son and all of us love the outdoors. If anyone has any input on places to see or things to do while here and would share the info I would appreciate it.
I probably have about two or three weeks before I go to IFS. Then, from what I understand (for NFO's) there is about a four week period b/w IFS and API. I'm not really sure about the timeline after API but would guess that there would be a weekend or two in there to enjoy.
Just about any info would be appreciated...i.e. I've been told to avoid the Blue Angels air show in June and go in November (not as hot and not as packed). Also, I've taken my son to the water park on hwy 59 in Alabama (great place with military discounts). Or even areas that the three of us can go ride bikes.
I would love to go turkey hunting but don't think I'll have the time to devote for it while I'm here...especially since the drive would be a bit too far.
Thanks in advance for input on things to do.

The June airshow is still very nice. It's along Pensacola Beach and while it is hot, it is still very impressive. Just make sure you go early/leave late because traffic is worse then anything I've ever seen.

Ft Walton has a smaller version of Sea World and Destin has a huge putt-putt/go-card/bumper boat/arcade place.

Not too much I can think of in P'cola its self other than the beach.

Make sure you take time to float/kayak/canoe the Blackwater river. Its a lot of fun and the scenery is gorgeous. The river runs through Blackwater State Park. Its about 20 mins outside of Milton. The park also has a few nice hiking/walking trails.
