Ok, so... I don't think I've mentioned, but, I was born in Pensacola at what is now Naval Hospital Pensacola. This was while my Dad was in the Navy was back in '81. Well, I thought that was the end of the connection. Apparantly, though, according to information I found out when rooting through all those personal things your parents keep about you (Birth Cert, SS Card, etc. etc.)... I was freaking baptized at NAS Whiting!!!

For god sakes, life is supposed to come full circle isn't it? I better be able to fly over my birthplace in a T-34 (or T-6 as the case may be) someday at like 200 knots and do a little barrell roll ;)

Just some random thoughts.

Grandpa was a 90 day wonder out of LSU in 43, drove an LCT at Omaha. My dad graduated USC and went AOCS in 68, now I am hoping to continue the trend. Anyhow just given my support of Dairy and his family connection.

Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Great Uncle were all US Navy. Grandfather on the other side of the family was in the Sub. Corp of the Royal Spanish Navy. Father worked for Grumman on the F-14A-D design and stress eval teams. Father was lead engineer for the Aft section of the V-22 for Grumman under Boeing supervision. Direct service skipped a generation, hoping to change that with my application.

Yes. I am a Pirate.
I'll chime in. My grandfather and his brother were both served on the heayv cruiser USS Helena during Korea, they participated in shore bombardment of the North. Coincidently, the only Navy ace during Korea, Guy Bordelon, was serving as gunnery officer at the same time on the Helena. My dad served served on the guided missile cruiser USS William H. Standly '78-81, he was off the coast of Iran when Desert One went tits up.

My dad was a career naval officer... who doesn't support me going into the Navy.... he thinks Air Force is better. Hummmm....

His favorite quote: "I didn't spend 26 years in the Navy so I could watch my son go off and join"

I'll join the fun

Great grandfather (mother's side) escaped the indian reservation, lied about his age, joined the merchant marines. Grandfather (mother's side) was enlisted in the army, went to the academy, got kicked out, went back enlisted, got an ocs commission, 2nd week in korea commanding a platoon, got leg shot off (gangrene, with no medivac in the boonies). mother army/air force nurse, out in '92. father army special forces out of ft bragg, CO of misawa back in the day, out in '84. brother was an A-6 driver (VA-95 out of whidbey) and was on the Lincoln when that BN partially ejected out of that KA-6 during desert storm. took a nice settlement on the a-6 sundown instead of transitioning. out in 96, flies for UAL.

one of my earliest memories is my dad telling me that the way to his quick death would to be to join the Air Force. being from a poor hispanic family i have no officers in my lineage and to this day i'm still ragged on by my dad, my uncle, my grandfather and any other veteran in the vicinity about me having that gold bar. After i got commissioned my uncle couldnt stop saying..." A F'n officer?!?"

Drill baby drill!
lets see.

Moms side... my great grandfather served in the german army (oops wrong side) he died about 10 years ago in germany, never got to meet him, but he gave me a mini porsche when i was 2 so i could zip around in it.

dads side.

my grandpa served in WW2, my great uncle served in Korea.. he has some sweet stories, he was on the front lines a ton. he also has some sweet rides, 71 jag e-type, 1923 Ford Model T-pick up, emerald green, chromed out like nobodies business and a fat super charger on it giving it 750 HP... and right now is rebuilding an old VW bug that has slightly modifed fenders for bigger wheels, a rebuilt porche engine, NOS and is PURPLE... all designed to **** with ppl who have just purchased a new vette.

both uncles served in the Marines. 1 cousin also who did time in the Marines. a second cousin who also was an officer in the AF, a nonflyer... left basically after the flyboys hogged the promotions.

my dad served 32 years in the navy, 4-6 as enlisted then he got picked up for a commisioning program and did NROTC at NC State. went SWO. i got to go on a tiger cruise when he was Capt of the McClusky, rode that bad boy from Guam to Yokuska, i got to drive that ship plus fire the 50 cal. retired as a Commodore.

now here i am going into an officer program and hopefully getting my wings.
