Frederick Airport Today

I was out at the airport today (goofing off) and saw this little plane taxing to the “T” hangars. I was lucky enough to catch the pilot before he closed up the hangar and left. He was very nice, told me all about the plane, and let me take a few pictures.

This is a Piper L4H made in 1944. It was an artillery spotter and this particular one was used in the European theater. The plane crashed in February of 1945, was repaired and returned to action in March. The little airplane stayed in Europe after the war, it was sold to a flight school in Sweden, where it remained until this fellow, and a friend, bought it four years ago and restored it to original condition. The pilot said the restoration was completed only about a month ago. Look at the radio in one of the pictures, that is the original radio in all of its vacuum tube glory.:) Look at the size of the thing!

The world famous city of FredROCK, MD. Final resting place of Francis Scott Key AND Barbara Fritchie! Some other famous stuff, too.

I should be a city promoter.

"The world famous city of FredROCK, MD."

Yep, nothing changes but the date.:) Ole Barb does have a good restaurant though.;) And besides, WT’s is located in Frederick. Where else are you going to meet with all of the politically incorrect, people?;) You have a barbershop that equals, Walter’s shop, where you are?:)

LOL I can't help but get a chuckle every time someone describes Frederick as a cool place. Maybe I missed something in my 15 years there. =)

The “Adamstown Bank” is now owned by a different, Korean.:) And the café you remember in, Point in Rocks, has been closed for years. Still, at my stage in life, I’d rather be living here, and not in a bigger city. Besides, my post is about the old plane, not Frederick.

yea, she's alright. i get the same cut there as i do when i pay 15 bucks outside the gate, so i tend to deal with the same crappy haircut for half as much.
