Flying during Christmas

Any prior Corpus Studs out there, I have a quick question. We have 12 days of break this year for the holidays, but I am only taking 4 days of leave and spending the rest of the time down here in Corpus. Does anyone know if the squadron will schedule your Offwing flights during this time with the reservists. Weather permitting, I could have C4101 complete before break starts. I didn't know if they give that time off to the reservists as well or do they let them fly. Just seeing if I should plan on flying on sitting a lot of Duty. Thanks

You may want to call your flight leader or something, they're probably going to tell you a lot more than anyone on here.

It's not necessarily the IPs that are the problem, it's whether Sikorsky is working or not and if the field(s) are open. I'd guess not, but Corpus may be different. As said, ask someone actually in the chain of command and not the internets.

I was in Corpus last year and only took a short break for Christmas like you. They were able to schedule me when most of the other people were still on leave. It worked out pretty well. Definitely ask your flight leader though. There may be more to it than just having an instructor available.

Dont believe the "you will get lots of X's over Christmas" hype. The IPs are on their good deal shore tour so they wont want to fly when they can spend time with family etc. The contract maintenance wont be doing much, the field will have limited hours. If you shoose not to take leave you can expect lots of duty, the one guarantee. This is a bad idea, very soon you will find yourself unable to take time off, take it now.

I am only taking 4 days of leave because that is all I have saved up and the command will not let us go in the hole. Trust me, if I was allowed to, I would be taking all 12 days of leave. And I am not trying to use christmas break to get ahead, I would really like to have a break from the norm for 2 weeks and get back into flying when everyone else gets back.

I haven't been below 60 days of leave since about 1995 and incur use/lose every year. Use it while you can.

Another benefit of BDCP...you have plenty of leave on the books while in flight school. I have taken a shit load of leave while in CC.

Check the ready room for a sign-up sheet for flying over Christmas.

That's crap. You're going to be in for how long? At least 6 years, maybe 8? They'll get their time out of you, I hate it when they pull BS like that. I love the explanation I've heard as to why you can't go in the hole: "You need leave on the books in case of an emergency." Well, why the heck can't you go in the hole if there's an emergency!?!? I mean if there ever was a time to go in the hole it'd be then!

I stuck around for christmas last year and got atleast ten X's. Their are tons of events to be had, especially from the reserve types and the sim types.
