flight surgery training
Naval flight surgeons go thru a 24 week course in Pensacola after med school and internship. This includes 9 or so weeks at NAMI learning the peculiarities of aeospace medicine, followed by 6 weeks of API at Schools Command, and then about 6 more weeks in VT land going thru ground schools, CPTs and 5 or 6 fam flights in the T34. This is followed by 3 or so weeks at Whiting of helo ground school, CPTs, and a handful of flights in the TH-57. There are also a couple weeks interspersed before winging with the pistol range, HABD/HEEDs, and ejection seat training training . Most of last year's flight surgery class deployed in their first year in the fleet.
The syllabus is undergoing some changes, but it's still head and shoulders above the training that the Air Force and Army flight surgeons go thru. Check out the NOMI website for more information.
