Currently, I am a Marine attached with Mals-42 at MCAS Miramar, CA and have been working toward my BA for my commission. I hold an instrument rating, airplane single engine land and was wondering if those that go into primary with flight experience actually helps or hurts an individual. Also, I have also heard rumors that people with an instrument rating are somewhat rushed through primary. Is this true? And also, has the Navy finally switched to the new Texan for primary?

Yes the flight experience helps, both in OCS selection and in primary.

No the T-6 has not come to the Navy. You can fly it if you get selected to go to Moody AFB and go through AF primary. I don't recommed going to AF primary just to fly the T-6. Their program is very different than ours. There are discussions about the two programs on this site.

I have heard about an acclerated sylabus for some with lots of fight time. Not sure it is true. Didn't happen in my day. Hope someone can help you with a better answer.

I have a PPL and am not being accelerated. It's available in the syllabus, but I asked when checking into my squadron (VT-3) and was told "we don't do that." As for helping or hurting, this topic has already been chewed to death. Do a search on "PPL" or "private time" and you'll find more opinions than you can stand on that topic.

About to start Tac phase in the Herc.
I have a buddy who used to be a WSO in the AF (now in the Navy) and had some prior time in the T-34. He was put on the accelerated syllabus through Contact. He was a VT-2 guy. So it does happen, but I believe it depends on the squadron. I was a VT-3 guy and they dont do it.
