Expert Pistol Scoring?

Does anyone know/remember the scoring for shooting expert with a 45?
All I remember is that we shot sets of 5 rounds at a 25yd target. I forget how many rounds and the scoring. I vaguely recall needing something around 400 to shoot expert.

I want the go to the range this weekend and see if I still have what it takes :icon_tong

you have 30 rounds total, for a best possible score of 150, I believe you need 142 or 144 to score expert

Reloading while shooting, drawing from a holster, strong/weak hand shooting, and kneeling are incorporated
Every set of rounds has a time limit (usually ~2 sec./round)

*or something like that

There was no holster, weak hand, kneeling, or reloading when I did mine.

That's probably b/c you shot it several years ago, the new qual course has the shooter draw from the holster, it's no longer at a target that's only at one distance. The scoring has changed too, and Barnard pretty much hit the nail on the head with the new course of fire.

It was changed to make the course more realistic than just shooting at one sole target.

Unless you've got some really great armorers, you'll be shooting with a 9mm, not a 45.

It has been a while, thanks for clearing that up. Good on them for making those changes. Of course none of it matters if you do it once every few years.

There's actually several courses. The one Pitchlock and EvilGN were the older courses. The holster or weak hand courses depend on who's giving it.

Yeah, I don't know the specific reg or timeline but all of the courses of fire should be slowly merging into the new version. I think it varies for now just on which armory runs it but I believe the ultimate goal is to emulate a scenario of being a quarterdeck/brow watch kind of thing, where you're obviously not going to have the gun out of the holster.

Both count though so expert in one is as good as expert in the other regardless of the different total scores.

I am definitely old school with the "READY ON THE RIGHT, READY ON THE LEFT, READY ON THE FIRING LINE" memories.

30 rounds at a 25yd targets sounds the most familiar. I don't think it matters for my nostalgic shooting but I do remember a couple of the rounds were timed.

I'm glad to hear the new standards are more practical. Although I don't think I want to be around when the holster draw takes place

The problem w/ the holster draw is that it's totally worthless for those of us that don't carry a weapon in a holster that can be "drawn." W/ an AIRSAVE, you have to look like a short bus rider to get your gun out (at least in the config I had), just because it sits so high.

I've done a bunch of different courses, and I think I've actually only done the holster thing once. It really is dependent on who's running the show. When you don't have belts and holsters for your guns, the GMs kind of just make it work for you and let you shoot what you want to shoot. Just don't leave your brass in the RAST track.

I finally got a chance to go to the range. I shot 30 rounds of 45 ACP with my XD 45 into the attached target at 25 yrds. My tally gets 228. Looks like I need some work on my vertical alignment.

EDIT: I just read my target it says '50 foot ISU Center Reduced from 25 meter Silhouette target'
doest that mean I was supposed to shoot it from 50'?

Those were the days! For those of you wondering, the .38 was a hold over for aircrew from the days, into the late 70s, when we could carry a .38 cal aerial flare that could be shot from a revovler. Of course, it isn't possible to shoot such a round through a model 1911 .45 or other semi automatic.

There's always that one guy who manages to cross his thumbs when switching from the strong hand to weak hand grip. That guy usually has to go to branch and get five or six stitches. Don't be that guy. :D

Good 'ol Buzz Lightyear...he'll never live that (or the fact that he looks suspiciously like Buzz Lightyear) down as long as I live. :D
