Enlisted to officer/aviator

What’s up guys and gals. As the title suggests I really wanna know what you guys think of my possible plan to become an officer/ aviator. So I’ve been on this journey for quite a while trying to get a pilot spot. Didn’t get selected for 2 boards including this past one.

For reference my scores were a 767, but my recruiter said I would have to improve something on my package such as GPA or ASTB (I’ve don’t every attempt). I didn’t get into grad school either so I can’t really improve my Gpa atm and I don’t exactly feel like waiting another semester past fall or even longer to get in that territory.

I’m essentially screwed from becoming a naval aviator at the moment.

I’m fully aware that NFO has a transition pipeline to pilot but that’s a very slim chance.

I not only wanna be a pilot but an officer withe urge to serve my country. the boards for other things I’m applying for aren’t for another couple months.

Would it be a bad idea to enlist and apply while enlisted or do my 4, get out and reapply? Sorry for the long message, hope to get some good guidance tho.

Welcome to the forum. First and foremost, the "new guy/gal" posts are strongly discouraged, otherwise hundreds would post this every day. I would strongly suggest browsing the aviation board forums and see where you stack and perhaps inputs/feedback.

Good luck!

I was chipping paint off the side of a ship two years ago as an undesignated sailor and I just got selected for SNA. Not the ideal route but hey, you can certainly do it. Bad or good is all relative.

Congrats man. That’s dedication. You deserved it.

Don’t enlist with the idea of becoming an officer, enlist to serve your country. The officer stuff may, or may not, happen but being the guy in the work spaces always bragging about becoming an officer (or complaining about how “the man” kept him down) isn’t a good person to work with.

@JMG22 what's your degree, GPA, and ASTB OAR? What your recruiter said is true; improving your GPA or ASTB scores will improve your chances for selection. Have you used all 3 of your ASTB attempts?

As a prior enlisted to officer (Navy), I joined to serve, then was motivated to seek a commission. I've known several people that joined with a degree, then applied to OCS and were not selected. You can do it, but if you have an avenue to directly apply for a commission, why not do that?

Another option, vice enlisted service, would be to serve under another officer designator, then do a lateral transfer. SWO to Pilot is an excellent path that you might want to consider. Have you discussed other officer to officer transition programs with your OR?
