I just bought a No. 4 Mk.I SMLE. Still waiting for the FFL transfer to take place. The thing is, I don't really know much about these outside of what my Grandfather told me about his old MkIII before he became a Bren man. Does any one have any good resources about field stripping and SMLE specific maintenence? Google has not worked too well for me thus far. Would an M1 chamber brush be of any use?

Looks to be a pretty sweet weapon. Take some denatured alcohol to the stock to get of all that old varnish...then a nice rubdown with BLO or Tung oil.

I have one - it's a lot of fun to shoot, although I don't get to very often. I use generic .30 cleaning tools on mine, so I would think that the M1 brush should be fine.

Sweet rifle!!! I also have a No. 4 and love it. The trigger can be a litle triky to get get back in. Other than that I have found field stripping pretty straight forward.
