Now listen fellas,

I just got off of active duty in July. I was an Aircraft Recovery Specialist in Miramar. I will settle this once and for all. E-28 gear IS Bi-Directional. There is not enough tension to cause damage if you do cut the deck pendant "wire". There is no need to cut it because we have retrieve engines to retract the cable. That is how we get it back into battery for the next aircraft. I will call my buddies in Beufort to get the rest of the scoop. And yes ARFF members do make up a lot of things. They truly enjoy embellishing. It gives them a sencee of accomplishment for a job they rarely do. I am a volunteer firefighter and am not putting down fellow firefighters. But ARFF Marines will tell you when you get to know them that they dont do to much.

Hmmm....I agree it did sound a bit fishy....not impuging anyone's honor here...but you wouldn't believe how many fleet "I've been there" stories are embellished...

We don't practice FCLPs (field carrier landing practice) with the hook down. The only time the hook is down is for an actual emergency landing at the field or a regular trap on the boat.
When you trap at the field it is pretty gentle compared to the boat and at the field you are back on the power at idle...or in some cases, actually in the process of shutting one or more off.
