There are quite a few Primary instructors on here that have the best insight and can probably give a better overview of their studs that excelled. Suffice to say, show up prepared, know the material and the required items cold. And of course show with a positive attitude ready to go have fun on the flight. You will make mistakes during training, how you shake it off and compartmentailize them during the flights and training goes a long way to determining how you overcome the many hurdles in training.

Seems like you have a ways to go, best of luck in school and making your goal of becoming a Naval Aviator a reality!

1) Learn to study the way the Navy wants you to study. Be able to regurgitate random numbers and facts at will.

2) Trim the airplane.

3) Have fun.

4) If struggling with 1 and 2, resort to 3.

Standing out in a good way as a cone is extremely difficult. It's not about aptitude, it's about attitude. No one is expecting the reincarnation of Wade McClusky and no one will be impressed if you carry yourself like you are. As web-san said, the attitude IPs look for is being able to learn from your inevitable fuckups, not let it get in your kitchen, and press on with a positive attitude.

They tell you what to memorize - show up to the brief with that shit memorized. Your next two flights too. Don't bitch, don't ask for special favors. Fess up if you're sick or your girlfriend called you at 3AM to dump you and you're too frazzled to fly. Keep your head in the books, mouth shut, ears open. And the correct answer to what do you want to fly is always, "anything that goes in the air is good, sir/ma'am".

Chairfly with friends or people ahead of you willing to help. That way when your world if going to "simulated" shit in the cockpit you will have talked through it before.

Gouge is good but can bite you in the ass so trust AND verify.

Most importantly, have fun and keep a good balance with the "work hard, play hard."

Whoa, I just looked at your profile. Why are you asking about Primary when you have not even seen the door to get your foot in it yet?

Keep doing well in school and make your way to commissioning source. Then ask questions how to succeed within that commissioning source, then ask questions about API, then ask questions about Primary, then ask questions about Advanced...see a theme here? The dude below is not even close to your canoe yet...
