Do they still fly the T-34 in Primary?

Nope, still rocking the TurboWeenie. Sounds like it's going to be that way for a while too. Unless you're a NFO.

last estimate I heard for the switch to the T6 for SNAs was sometime after 2010 at the earliest...

Will the T-34C last that long?

Any G limits above and beyond the original NATOPS limits beacuse of structural issues?

I could be wrong, but I spoke to an IP at the NAS Pt. Mugu airshow on Saturday who said they might be looking into procuring T-6s around 2008. They're already using them for NFO training, as he was there with a USAF 2LT exchange student in the AF nav pipeline.

Chuck:

I "heard" that the Corpus birds are limited to regular breaks now. Here at Whiting, short breaks are still allowed. There are apparently a few birds that are limited (haven't seen one yet, myself), but for the most part, it's stil 2345.

Correct. Just before I was to start forms there they g-limited the T-34. No more short breaks (90 deg) and no more tail chase on the cruise forms. Thereafter cruise forms sucked. Can we say 10+ wingovers in a row?

Saw a T-6 takeoff today at the Quantico Flying Club. It sounded more like a jet than the t-34. It was pretty cool seeing that bird for the first time.

Hope so ... I'm flying a T-34B in the Flying Club. :)

I use to fly one with my dad at Norfolk NAS back in the mid 90's. They are long gone though i think. That was a blast flying those compared to a freaking 152. What flying clubs still operate t-34's?

Plenty of folks still fly the 34B...and G the **** out of them. I remember reading about a few dogfighting schools that were having problems with wings coming off.

FAA has since grounded the entire civilian T-34 fleet last I had read. .....
Negative .... we still fly 'em .... or perhaps you are not considering Navy Flying Clubs .... "civilian" ???

Unless they stopped 1 1/2 months ago since I have been "out of town" :) ..... we used to have 4 (!) flyables .... now down to 2 plus 2 hangar queens/parts lockers. The original plan was to get at least 6 -B models and do a 4- plane "airshow" in the summers .... but it never happened because the leadership @ the flying club was ..... well, less than courageous Aviation officers, shall we say ??? ;) .... and then the birds became acro limited and insurance limited .... and then age took over.

But fly 'em??? Of course we do/did/will again ..... :)
