I've been looking around the internet for some journals about Navy deployments. I found this one:
http://www.nbc-2.com/News/stories/deployment1.shtml
http://www.nbc-2.com/News/stories/deployment2.shtml
http://www.nbc-2.com/News/stories/deployment3b.shtml

but I'm also interested in something from a pilot/NFO perspective. Any ideas or links?

thanks,
-Greg

ps - edited to add parts 2 and 3 of the journal

Here's an abbreviated one from the perspective of a H2P...

0930: Wake up.
1000: Wake up again, realizing that you meant to get up a half hour ago.
1015: Check email
1100: Get dressed
1115: Sit in the wardroom waiting for the "Early dinner for watch release" people to eat and leave.
1130: Eat lunch
1200: Check email
1300: Study
1305: Some inane Shoe drill which involves GQ, Gun shoots, Engineering casualties (real or drill), or some combination of any of these.
1500: Brief
1501: Realize you can't brief because of the inane Shoe drill, even though the brief was on the flight schedule.
1505: Check email.
1600: Flight quarters and launch. Spend the next three hours following the Shoe's directions which results in doing everything but actually accomplishing the mission.
2000: Be glad the bird is put away and now it's time to see if anyone saved you any dinner.
2005: Realize that it's going to be another PB&J night.
2030: Check email.
2045: Shower
2100: Watch TV/movie/play video game/read.
2300: Fall asleep.

Repeat another 181 times.

Hmmm...let's think what that one would be like. Let's see, typical day in HI:

Fly
Go to bounce pattern
Get in the way of H-60's, who swear that their traveling faster than the pain in the ass P-3 that's in front of them.

Gatordev,

Sounds like a great cruise. Listening to you and John have helped me narrow my selection choices.

Gatordev, hmmm, my question to you is, what the hell are you guys doing in the pattern anyways?!?! Just stay at 300' and go to the helo pads and stay out of my pattern.

[:D]

So Dave, what is your choice now?
