Dehydration: I have heard one should drink lots of water every day to keep from being dehydrated. How do you know if you are dehydrated, or if you're doing fine? If you keep drinking water and it keeps coming out clear like it comes in but only 10 min later, does this mean you are hydrated? If you are dehydrated and you drink water does a greater percentage stay with you? If you run and you want water by the end of your 7 or 3 miles this doesn't mean you are dehydrated, or does it?

Any info on 187? Are there usually a good amount of slots as compared with the summer sessions? Any gouge on air vs ground slot numbers?

This is what an NHL trainer told his players "Drink 'till your piss doesn't stink." So yeah, if it's clear, you're good to go. Also, thirst is a sign of dehydration, so you should drink water regularly (I leave a bottle on my desk) rather than waiting until you're thirsty, then chugging a gallon.

OK you piss out the water maybe because at that moment you are not involved in Physical activity. When we were going through in-processing I would drink a canteen like every 2hrs and piss like every second. Then the training began and I no longer had that problem. There is such a thing as too much water so find that equal balance.

Yeah, if you drink tons of water and dont keep enough salts in your system, thats bad. I think a Marine recruit or two died because they drank too much water and didn't keep enough salt in the body. If youre going to drink a ton of water, make sure your food is salty to keep it in balance.

I tried to drink at least one canteen an hour while I was at Jrs this past summer. I also made sure I had AT LEAST one (usually two) during personal time and another during taps so I was ready for morning PT. Yes, I was sick of drinking water. Thankfully juice is offered at chow! :) First thing I did when I sat down for chow.... salted my food! It didn't matter what it was....breakfast, lunch or dinner..... it was all salted. I didn't have any problems with dehydration, but then again, it did rain 30 of the 42 days I was there so I'm sure that factored in.

Bottom line, drink water whenever you can! If that means making a head call during academics to fill your canteens, DO IT! Yes, I was sick of water, but I'd rather drink water all day then get the silver bullet! :icon_tong

For 187 - It is at the beginning of a new gov't fiscal year - that usually means more slots are available. No idea on air vs. ground numbers.

It was only 30 of 42 days. It felt like forever I forgot what it was like to run in dry sox. Rain when we got there and rain when we left. But the best in when that Candidate walked us through thigh high water. How the hell did that street fill up so bad and then drain the next day I will never know. The good ol days!

Always drink water, whenever possible. On humps, save your salt (sugar too) from your MRE and eat it when you have time. Obviously, wait to use it until you have been out there for at least a little while.
