Defunct U.S. airlines - an interesting page of Airline history that time passed by

Airborne All the Way!!!
My mom worked for Braniff for 21 years. She was the personnel manager at the Dallas HQ when they went bankrupt the first time. I have several mahogany models that were commissioned by the airline, including the Concorde & the aircraft on that page.

Yep, my Grandfather was an Eastern pilot from 52-82. I have a model of the 727 from him but never scored the Eastern Concord model (I think my Uncle, who was an Eastern Mech, got that one). Hard to believe how many airlines there were out there at one point.

Wow ... memories.

The GLORY DAYS (kinda') of airlines in the 'almost modern' age ... I 'rushed' 20 of these airlines .... was hired by 5 .... actually flew the birds of 3 ...

And then there is this
interesting fact: A Braniff plane and logo always appear after the closing credits in the South Park cartoon series. With the slogan : “Braniff - Believe It!

"BELIEVE IT" ??? Now where have you heard that before ... ???

That was Braniff, part II. I elected NOT to participate as it started flying out of the ashes after my tenure in the South West OP-AREA was over and I had moved on to relatively 'friendlier skies'. I should get them for 'intellectual property' infringement for ripping me off.

'Course I DID do a TV commercial for them (even joined the SAG) ... and they went out of business @ 6 months after 'my run'. And then Republic National bank bought rights to it ... and they are gone, also ...

I suppose I should call it even ??? :)

... the former RNB Building ... now condos, among other things ... :)

Believe it.

That is pretty cool. The first two airlines I ever flew on...as I can remember or was told, Huges and PSA. One of my earliest memories was getting on the "bannana" plane then later on, living in San Diego, we flew on the aircraft with a smile.

..... PSA. One of my earliest memories was .... the aircraft with a smile.

Roger that; PSA = Poor Sailor Airline ... probably 1/2 + of the pilot cadre was former NAVAIR and I knew many of them. It felt 'comfortable' and was a good place to work, if only a regional ... plus, the STEWs were absolutely the finest of ANY U.S. airline -- and they knew it -- and so did we. :)

BUT: a better offer presented itself on day-5 of class (very unusual to be able to 'pick' in those days) ... but PSA still has a 'soft spot' in my heart, as that was the FIRST airline that I was hired by and which was willing to entrust people's lives to yours truly...

Perhaps saying 'ALOHA' to PSA was the best decision I ever made -- as a classmate of mine went down along w/ many other employees & PAX on PSA Flight 182 over SanDog in SEP, 1978.

Bad day ... and fate, too.

I've written at least one research paper on the FLT 182 mishap, read the entire NTSB report, etc. Terrible disaster that could have been avoided. But yeah, my dad was a sailor and we flew nothing but PSA growing up in San Diego.

Reading those CVR transcripts sent a shiver down my spine. Knowing you're fucked and not being able to do anything about it? Yea. F that.

Sound like the common thread in all these failed airlines was. . .YOU. ;)

Was your airline callsign "The Closer"?

Some even say the character of Eric Cartman was loosely based upon the boyhood tales of Huckleberry Finn & A4sForever ...
