Yup, Cremation.

A very good friend of mine has passed away, Retired ACC. He was a former High Power shooter for USN and one of those Chiefs who has a way of making things work.

Anyway, his wish was to have his cremains scattered over an active Navy range. His family is in Idaho.

I have a feeling that Big Navy will frown upon this, but, they have frowned upon many things I have done.

Does anyone know of any ranges on the west coast?

NAS Whidbey has a significant range ... semi-close to Idaho .... NUW, OOD NAS phone (360) 257-2631 (public source) might be the place to start. Probably going to have to move on to the C.O.'s office before you get bounced around to 4-5 other phone numbers.

Maybe contact the CMC or PAO as well and make it a "story" ... might make UNCLE more sympatico ... ???

I called and was going to make some inquiries for you .... the duty PO said "didn't you just call"?? .... It must have been you ... he said we sounded "alike" ... my sympathy for you. :)

As a former Navy pistol shooter, I am interested in who this individual was and if I knew him. I started my Navy shooting career at Whidbey Island and remember the range very well. I put lots of hardball downrange there in the late '60s. Your caring help for this individual's family reflects the "Take care of our own" mindset of the US military that I miss so much since retirement. Thank you and my condolences to the family.
