hey,
a great place to fly to is deland. I dont know if they serve breakfast but good place for lunch. You can watch the skydivers come in and land right in front of the place where you eat. One of the busiest jump zones in the US. pretty interesting. Just be very careful and listen on the radios for jumpers away cause the parachutes fly VERY close to the pattern. Had a guy about a month ago get his legs taken off by the jump plane coming into land. There is also gliding out at bob lee just north of deland and pierson (on sundays) which is just west of flager near the lake. Very cool to watch. Im in PA right now so dont look for me.

Deland....been there, done that. Don't waste your time. If I were you, I'd venture a little northwest of your position. I'm assuming you are flying out of GA since you mention SC to the north and FL to the south. Go up to TN, or even up to NC. There's not a lot I'd recommend in FL unless you're going to the Keys and gonna be doing some diving. Though, if you insist on going south, stay on the Atlantic coast.

Here is a link to a really cool website that I use to find interesting places to fly into. I found an airport in Kansas on this site where you land on a grass strip and taxi on the street into town and park in front of an old hotel that has a good restaurant. I'm sure you could find some cool places in your area too.

Look at Fairhope, AL. They have a brunch on Sundays at one of the nice hotels on the coast. You fly into Fairhope airport, they pick you up (in a limo?), drive you to the hotel, you eat the brunch which is supposed to be fantastic, then they drive you back and you fly home.

Reservations are REQUIRED.

A great place I know of that I fly into all the time is an airpark called Rough River in eastern Kentucky. I'm not sure if that's farther than you'd prefer to fly, but it is an awesome place: it is on an excellent lake, it has a good Par 3 golf course, it has a lodge with some great restaurants, and it has plenty of hotel suites that you can rent. Reservations are required, but it is well worth the flight, I can assure you. It's great for a day hop or for a weekend. You can look up Rough River in the AFD, it should be there. Airport identifier SI3.

You'll fly right over Callaway Gardens on final. They'll send a van out to the airport to pick you up and you and your girl can roam the gardens and hit all the very nice restaraunts there.

Fairhope is great. Check out Dauphin Island in Alabama. Also, check out George T Lewis airport in Cedar Key Florida. I have been to Cedar key but not to the airfield. Let us know what you find.

I have flown to cedar key but havent walked around. Exciting field to land on due to the fact it is short (2355ft) and has water at both ends.

I justt went to Cedar Key this past weekend. Say on the radio that you need ground transportation. A lady usually listens in on the radio and will give you a ride into town for $5. Going into that town is like going back in time. Volunteer fire house and everybody seems to know everybody. There is supposed to be some good fishing there and there are alot of sea food restaurants.
It's very pretty.
The runway is a blast.
oh yea, that thing that looks like a taxiway by the runway is actually a road. So dont go on it.
Have fun.
