computer use during flight training???

I'll be headed to OCS within 6 months and am in a position to buy a new computer if I so choose. The one I have now is about 4 years old, but it is decent at completing whatever projects I need to handle. Is there any need for SNAs to have their own personal computers? I am sure that the vast majority of my time will be spent studying, but I thought there might be some things that would be made easier by a computer. Anyone out there have any ideas? How do all of you guys who are currently in flight training access this site - on base or do you have your own computer/internet access? Thanks for the help.

i have my own computer at home and rarely used the computer on base (the only one that had them was the simulator building). The only things i used a personal computer for flight training purposes were the RIOT trainer, checking the online flight schdules, and getting gouge (i.e. bryanweatherup.com).

Not sure what you are hoping for in the way of aircraft, but my husband and pretty much everyone else in his fleet squadron had bought laptops before their first deployment, to play games on, watch movies on, etc. etc. and sometimes he would use it to do powerpoint briefs for work as part of his ground job in the squadron. We also have a home computer that we use for internet. I think if you have internet access via your present computer, you might want to sit tight before purchasing a new one before you know what your needs will eventually be (plus whatever you buy now will be obsolete within a month of its purchase!).

Wait until right before your first deployment and then buy a screamer-fast laptop for movies and entertainment. You'll end up spending the night in some sketchy places where that copy of CKY will help pass the time better than Al-Jazeira (or however you spell it).
