Community College...?

I'm going to hit just shy of 30 credits at the end of the fall term this year. I read that not taking higher level math/science classes doesn't really make you as competitive as starting at a 4 year University does. I'm planning on taking Trig/Calc 1, and as many sciences as I can take.

Once I finish my AA, I planned on getting a BS in Criminal Justice, but I could easily switch to something a little more "sciency". The University I'm transferring to has an excellent meteorological program (which I read on the a link else where is considered a technical degree) that I could take.

If community college students aren't really considered competitive, am I wasting my time? I've got the grades (3.84 GPA) and the extra curricular, I'm sure I will do well on the ASTB.

Would those qualifications outweigh the community college factor?

You've got to be recieving a degree from a 4 year accreditted college or university. I'm not a recruiter but I think as long as the credits transfer in to where you're going you should be fine, talk to your OR to be sure though.

I will be receiving the bachelors from a 4 year. The CC I'm at has a "direct-connect" program to the local University.

Sounds like you should be squared away then, as long as your degree is from a 4 year. Good Luck.

Just to throw my hat it, I was a business major, hence I never took any math higher than Finite Math (Business Calculus), and the only sciences I had were Biology and Geology. I took some of my courses at a CC also.

Meteorology programs are fairly technical. I have taken a few meteorology and climatology courses. I am pretty sure that a BS in meteorology requires more than just basic math... calc 1 and 2 at my university. I personally got an AA from a CC. I went to one for a single semester just to get an AA, and then transferred to a public university for my bachelor's. It sounds like a degree is a degree when it comes to being eligible for selecting, as long as the university you get the degree from has the right accreditation. Your OR will help with this... but I think you need to be enrolled in a 4 year degree program at a university in order to apply, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the responses.

I'm also working full time (50+ hours) on top of going to school... do they take that into account? Showing dedication and commitment?

Panda,

Almost half of my 4 year degree came from a CC. Don't sweat it, just keep your GPA up after you transfer.
