Hey everyone, I'm new to the boards here and I'm currently applying for OCS intending to do the CEC program. I know there are mostly flight guys here, but maybe someone can answer these questions that I haven't gotten a chance to ask my recruiter:

1) What's the deal with the CEC rotation through the three billet groups (seabees, public works, contract management)?

2) Do CEC officers get to choose which of these three groups they will work in? If one chooses seabees do they get extra combat training after OCS in CECOS or something?

3) How are CECs looked upon in OSC? Reputation-wise. I imagine people group each other into their respective programs.

3) (kinda non-technical question) What the hell do I tell my mom whose worried about me being deployed as a possible future seabee even though I know I'll be safer than your average motorist on an LA freeway?

Thanks!
-Hopefully heading to OCS in 2006

The CEC tours are typically 2 years each. As a JO, you'll be expected to do a tour in each area, in no particular order, as well as a grad school tour (which incurs a 3 year extra obligation).

As for combat training, that's probably taken care of after you report to your construction battalion. As for what to tell your mom, remind her that the Seabees mission is construction. They are trained in defensive combat, meaning they can secure their own perimiters and escort convoys. The seabees' mission isn't to do someone in. Keep that in mind. Good luck!
