I heard that the first saturday after you get to Navy OCS is called Black Saturday or Hell Day or something like that. It is supposed to be really stressful and challenging, but no one will ever talk about it for some reason. Does any one know anything about what goes on that day? Cuz I heard it is kinda hush, hush. I don't want anyone to give away any secrets or anything I just wanted kinda a general idea.

Yeah... they line all the candidates up in a line, and they all count off one to ten. Every tenth candidate is then used by the Drill Instructors as a sacrifice to the PT God's. They are made to assume the pushup position and then beheaded. The blood is then sprinkled on the PT field in hopes that it will appease the PT Gods and they will forgive the nastiness of the Navy candidates.

You guys got off lucky, they made us do the "elephant walk" all across the parade grounds. It really sucked for the guy behind me because I had the worst case of gas. Poor bastard.

Do you really think its so bad that no one can talk about it? I doubt it, you're talking about Navy OCS, not SEAL school. I would try posting this question on one of the Navy threads instead of the Marine one. Thats probably why you're going to keep getting sarcastic replies.

Seriously, Pat has a point. Do you really think we're to believe that Marines can count to 10?

I don't know about black saturday but it was funny as hell to watch the new candidates come in on Sunday. I saw them a couple of times when I was coming in on the weekend to study at API (for of those who don't know the API building is right across the street from Navy OCS). I'd have to say the funniest thing I heard about was from one of my Marine buddies. He came up to the study room and told me about how one of the OCS candidates started yelling at him to give him his papers and get in line for inprocessing. Needless to say this was not one of the smarter OCS candidates around. Granted it's the weekend and my buddy is in civilan clothes, but he's wearing a Marine Corps shirt and carrying a briefcase with the EGA on the side of it. So my friend starts yelling at him to be quiet which brings more yelling from the OCS candidate. About halfway through his yelling it finally dawns on this idiot that he's yelling at a Marine Officer so he shuts up and starts walking away without saying another word. My buddy yells at him to stop and starts tearing into him for being so disrespectful towards an officer. The idiot candidate then asks him not to yell at him in front of the other new candidates because he is in charge of their inproccessing. My buddy couldn't belive it so he yells at him for a minute or two asking why is it ok for a candidate to yell an officer and be disrespectful yet an officer can't correct a candidate. I just about crapped my pants listening to my buddy tell me that story. It wouldn't have been so bad for the candidate but he was so disrespectful and just plain acting dumb.

well... candidate officers aren't supposed to get yelled at... they're in that "phase" where they're supposed to be treated like officers. the candio probably thought your marine friend was checking in for indoctrination. but it's a funny story.

whoa, God forbid they get yelled at ... i suppose tissue paper is standard issue at Navy OCS for when an instructor makes the candidate officer cry

I hear the Army has "stress cards" where a student can give in one of these cards to the DI who is coming down hard on him and the DI has to stop. Doesn't this defeat the point of having to be able to deal with stress and tough situations? I mean you can't stop a conflict with a stress card because you haven't had your morning coffee yet.

There are no "stress cards" in the army and there haven't ever been any. I have some friends who are prior enlisted army officers and they laugh at this like we do. Stress cards are just a myth.
